History of Denka’s Fertilizer Business
The history of Denka’s fertilizer business began with the Hokkai Carbide Plant established by Dr. Tsuneichi Fujiyama in the city of Tomakomai. Dr. Fujiyama was the first in Japan to introduce the technology to manufacture calcium cyanamide from carbide. In 1915, the company began selling calcium cyanamide (lime nitrogen). Calcium cyanamide is a special material that has the effects of both a fertilizer and a pesticide and is still used in a variety of applications today. Under the biostimulant category, Denka has been manufacturing and selling a humic acid-based fertilizer called Azumin in Japan for more than 50 years. In 2021, Denka launched a biostimulant brand called PRULA and hopes to contribute to improving the productivity of farmers around the world with Denka’s proprietary technology.
